Synopsis:
Donovan has been in messes before―after all, she's an author and single mom who’s a pro at getting out bloodstains for rather unexpected reasons―but none quite like this. She and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero accidentally destroyed a luxury car that they “borrowed” in the process of saving Finlay’s ex-husband. The Russian mob handled her debt, but that means Finlay now owes them.
Still running the show from behind bars, mob boss Feliks has a task for Finlay: find a contract killer before the cops do. Problem is, the killer might be an officer. Luckily, hot cop Nick has started up a citizen’s police academy, so Finlay has the perfect cover-up to sleuth out the real criminal as she does some “research” for her new novel. Nick is more than happy to get close to Finlay, but he’s also getting dangerously close to the truth.
As Finlay and Vero dodge potential spies and juggle the daily trials of parenting, they can only hope they find the crooked cop before Feliks catches up with them―not to mention revealing Vero’s mysterious past, Nick’s growing interest in Finlay, and the threat of her looming book deadline.

My Thoughts
This has easily become my new favorite of the series. Finlay and Vero get funnier and funnier with each book. Their ideas, interactions, and conversations are hysterical.
The story development in this one kept me so interested. The author does such a great job of adding twists and turns, giving so many possibilities for where things will go and who done it. I had so many theories about who Easy Clean could be, and that constantly changed throughout the story.
Once again, the pacing was fantastic. I never really knew what was going to happen—or to whom—which kept me completely engaged. Just when I thought things were slowing down, something else would happen to throw Finlay into even more chaos.
This one also felt like the riskiest for Finlay. Not only is she literally spending a week at a police training academy with her kind of boyfriend (who is also a cop) while working for the Russian mob, but she’s also still trying to write her next book and take care of her family. The added danger and tension in this book made me even more invested—Finlay's been in wild situations before, but this time, it felt like things could really go wrong.
The forced proximity to Nick does have me liking him a little more. I’m still not a fan of the way things were left with Julian, but I understand why that story needed to close. My issue with Nick is that it doesn’t feel like Finlay is being given a real choice about whether or not she wants to be with him—he’s just always there, which honestly feels a little suspicious to me.
One of my favorite things in this book was the introduction of several new characters, a few of whom I think will play huge roles in where things go from here. I also loved seeing some of the previous characters in a new environment—specifically her neighbor being at the academy. That was hilarious.
I’m already halfway into book four, and I think this will become one of my new favorite series to recommend—especially the audiobooks. The narrator is one of the best I’ve ever heard. She does such a great job of giving each character their own voice and absolutely nails the accents!
